What You’ll Need
- Stand mixer
- Measuring cups & spoons

Ingredients
- 2 cups softened unsalted butter
- 6 cups powdered sugar (confectioners’ sugar)
- 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 6 to 8 Tbsp heavy whipping cream, plus more to thin the frosting
- 4 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
- With a stand mixer fitted with a whisk attachment, beat butter on high speed for about 3 minutes or until creamy and lighter in color, scraping down the bowl as needed.
- Add powdered sugar (lumps removed), cocoa powder, 6 Tbsp heavy cream, 4 tsp vanilla extract, and 1/2 tsp salt. (💡Add powdered sugar 3 cups at a time to avoid a mess)
- Beat on low speed until sugar is incorporated then increase to medium/high speed and beat for 3 minutes, scraping down the bowl several times to ensure everything is well blended. Add additional tablespoons of heavy cream one at a time if needed to thin the frosting.
